Richard H. Heist, PhD, Appointed Interim Dean of the School of Engineering

On July 16, 2018 Richard H. Heist, PhD, joined Fairfield University as interim dean of the School of Engineering. Dr. Heist is senior vice president emeritus for Academic Affairs and Research at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

At Embry-Riddle, Dr. Heist was named provost and senior vice president as well as professor of engineering in 2007. He was executive vice president and chief academic officer of the Daytona Beach campus from 2009 to 2012, and then assumed the duties of chancellor. Dr. Heist was appointed senior vice president for academic affairs and research for the university in January 2015, and he retired from Embry-Riddle in August 2016.

During his tenure at Embry-Riddle, Dr. Heist had oversight responsibility for academic and research matters including programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels. He also oversaw academic policy and procedures; the evaluation and development of curricula; accreditation compliance; the growth of scholarly research; and the University Research Centers.

Prior to Embry-Riddle, Dr. Heist served as a professor and dean of the School of Engineering at Manhattan College, and director of the Nucleation Laboratory there.
