On a typical day, nearly everyone Christina Esmiol ’16 texts or talks to is from Fairfield University. “I am very in touch with my Fairfield friends. What would I do without them?” Forever a Stag, Christina is using what she has learned in her current position to help strengthen the University’s legacy of excellence.

Following graduation, Esmiol was a marketing intern at KAYAK before joining the Annual Fund team at the Taft School, an independent boarding school located in Watertown, Conn., in February 2017. “This experience has given me a completely new perspective about fundraising, and a new appreciation for annual giving. I now understand the importance of participation and how all gifts, regardless of size, really make an impact.”

This newly discovered knowledge partially inspired her support of the fourth annual STAGiving Day, which took place on Tuesday, March 20, 2018.

Each STAGiving Day, Fairfield students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends are encouraged to come together to celebrate being a Stag by sharing stories about their favorite experiences or making a gift in honor of a person, class, or program that has impacted their life. “I participated on STAGiving Day because I love Fairfield and everything I learned and did during my four years will stay with me forever.”

On STAGiving Day, Stags are able to contribute to a variety of Fairfield Fund and Fairfield Athletics campaigns that serve to elevate the institution as the modern, Jesuit Catholic University. Ultimately, the decision lies in the hands of the donor as to which campaign to support, based on their own experiences at Fairfield.

“When I reflect on my time at Fairfield I realize how lucky I was to have had access to amazing career panels and fun weekend events. But in order for students to continue to enjoy these things, alumni need to help fund them,” Esmiol said.

In addition to Esmiol’s STAGiving support, her Fairfield experiences have motivated her to stay as connected as possible to the University. “This year I became a Class Ambassador for Fairfield’s Advancement Division. I’ve been back to campus for the two Alumni Weekends since I’ve graduated, and I also went to the Presidential Welcome event in Greenwich this fall. I really enjoyed hearing from our new President, Dr. Nemec, and his vision for Fairfield.” And this is just the beginning; Esmiol anticipates that her involvement with the University will only increase in the future.

While Fairfied checked all of Esmiol’s boxes when deciding which university to attend, she never imagined that she’d develop such strong feelings for the school. “I chose Fairfield because of its Jesuit identity, small student population, diverse and strong academic programs, proximity to the city and home, and beautiful campus.”

A communication and French major with a minor in marketing, Esmiol admits that many of her experiences outside of the classroom aided in her personal growth. “My four years at Fairfield were really fulfilling. I was a tour ambassador, I held several different positions in French Club — including co-president my senior year — and I was a New Student leader. These were some of the most influential experiences I had on campus and they really defined me as a student and person.”

Cristina hails from Long Island and currently resides in Middletown, Conn. During her free time, she still enjoys meeting up with her Fairfield friends. “We don’t get to see each other as often as we’d like because we are spread out across the U.S., but that makes our reunions even more special.”
