Christmas Eve with Fairfield University Airs Nationally on CBS

Christmas Eve with Fairfield University, a one-hour program produced exclusively at Fairfield University, aired nationally on CBS on Dec. 24, 2017. The program featured musical performances by the University Glee Club, Professor of Music Brian Q. Torff and his New Duke band, and alumni band The Lionfish. Highlights included a special tree lighting ceremony as well as personal reflections from a variety of Fairfield University students, Jesuits, and others, and was meant to be a window into the life and spirit of the University community in the prelude to the holidays.

“Being able to give the entire country a window into how Stag Country celebrates Christmas was a true honor,” said Jennifer Anderson ’97, MBA’02, vice president of Marketing and Communications. “Christmas Eve with Fairfield University was a collaboration of departments across campus, and our efforts were rewarded: the special reached close to 1 million homes and was carried by over 90 percent of nationwide CBS affiliates.”

The opportunity to create the program for the national network came after alumnus John P. Blessington ’65, a senior executive producer at the network for more than 30 years, contacted the University and presented the idea, citing Fairfield’s commitment to Ignatian values of service to others and faith in the fellowship of the human family.
