MAAC Championships Highlight Fall Season

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships for the Stags’ field hockey and volleyball teams highlighted an exciting fall 2015 season at Fairfield. In total 13 student-athletes earned All-MAAC honors — including three major award winners — and 44 Stags were tabbed for the MAAC All-Academic Team.

Athletics Highlights

• Fairfield volleyball shined brightly on the national stage, hanging tough for three sets with the University of Texas in the NCAA Championship first round. Before a crowd of about 1,900 and a television audience on ESPN’s Longhorn Network, the Stags battled the nation’s third-ranked team before falling by set scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17.
n Field hockey capped their MAAC Championship season with a trip to nationally ranked Boston University for an NCAA Championship Play-In round. Fairfield’s second-ever trip to the national postseason — and the first since 2001 — ended with a 6-1 loss to the Terriers.

• The 2015 annual exhibition game last November paid tribute to former Fairfield University Men’s Basketball Coach George Bisacca, and he was also honored at a special Friends of Men’s Basketball reception. To further carry on Bisacca’s legacy, a fund has been created with generous support from his children and grandchildren that will support Fairfield student-athletes for many generations to come.

• Fairfield University Athletics received national honors from the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) for its #LucasOnTheLoose campaign. Fairfield was awarded the gold medal in the “Revenue-Generating Idea” category in Group II, which encompasses all of the traditional ‘mid-major’ conferences in NCAA Division I athletics.
