Fairfield Awarded the Commissioner’s Cup for Women’s Athletics

Led by MAAC Championships and NCAA postseason appearances for the softball and women’s lacrosse teams, Fairfield won the MAAC Commissioner’s Cup for women’s athletics for the eighth time in program history. Additionally, a trip to the MAAC Championship Match for women’s soccer and a MAAC Championship semifinal appearance by the women’s basketball team helped guide the Stags to their first Commissioner’s Cup since 2008-09. Overall, Fairfield’s women’s teams owned a .556 winning percentage in MAAC regular season play this past academic year.

Athletics Highlights

• Fairfield unveiled Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium — a state-of-the-art venue that serves as home to men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. The dedication was held on March 21, 2015 as the Stags won both ends of a doubleheader broadcast to a nationwide audience on ESPN3 and SNY.

• Fairfield men’s lacrosse won the Colonial Athletic Association regular season championship in its first season as a member of the nationally competitive conference. The Stags rose as high as No. 18 in the USILA poll.

• 140 student-athletes earned All-Academic honors on the conference level. Additionally, the women’s cross country, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s tennis teams merited NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting an Academic Progress Rate (APR) among the top 10 percent nationally in their respective sports.

• Fairfield student-athletes totaled 53 all-conference honors, highlighted by Player of the Year laurels for Felicitas Heinen ’15 (field hockey), Ann Burgoyne ’17 (field hockey) and Lauren Filicia ’15 (softball). Will Fox ’18 (men’s lacrosse) and Megan Theiller ’18 (volleyball) were both recognized as the conference Rookie of the Year in their respective sports.
